The SunPort allows you to buy solar without panels.

You can use solar, too!

“We need solar beyond the suburbs, solar for everyone, solar without barriers. So how do we make solar easy and affordable for all?”

September 14, 2015—Ok, here’s a way to get solar without solar panels and it’s almost on the market (at least you can preorder it now.) This device won’t save you money, but it will help us move away from fossil fuels–the developer claims it’s a lifestyle choice. Here’s his logic: You don’t need to own a power plant to receive the energy, and neither do you need to own a solar panel to receive solar energy. This little gadget plugs into a regular wall socket and talks to the grid, telling it you want solar energy.

Accelerating Our Shift Towards Solar

Paul Droege, the inventor of the Sunport says, “It’s about crowdsourcing demand for solar energy and accelerating our shift to solar. We forget about the nastiness of nonrenewables because they don’t spew their emissions in our faces, but tall, not so distant smokestacks still constantly spew.” He reasons that the more we demand solar the more companies will invest in solar and the more solar plants will be built, eventually crowding out nonrenewable power sources and creating a healthier planet for our future

The SunPort app

This app will show you how much solar you are using.

Upgrading to Solar

The SunPort measures the energy you take from an outlet, just like what currently happens when you plug in your computer or cell phone. It then either “upgrades” to solar credits by the company’s servers communicating with the SunPort through your cell phone or you can buy what is called SunJoule credits in advance and upload them into your SunPort’s memory. Mr. Droege makes the point that this is how all contracted renewable energy in the grid works.

Solar For Everyone

A SunPort app on your cell phone will also let you see how much solar energy you’re using. Mr. Droege states, “We need solar beyond the suburbs, solar for everyone, solar without barriers. So how do we make solar easy and affordable for all?” —The SunPort, of course! This unit claims it will cost only $2 to solar-power your computer for a month!

Investing in Solar Energy

This device will plug into any wall socket.

The SunPort has been recently fully funded by Kickstarter. You can find out about preordering at: sunport.co/what-is-sunport/
